Eleven weeks ago, I left my job at Mitratech with nothing else lined up to begin a planned Career Break.

It was a scary decision, but a necessary one. After spending most of my life pursuing acting and then making the dramatic COVID-era pivot into tech, I needed to take a breather to reset and reevaluate. I needed space to reflect on where I’ve been and where I’m going.

The past 11 weeks have been invaluable. They have been filled with ALL of the feelings - joy, discomfort, fear, excitement - just to name a few. Some specific highlights include:

👩‍🏫 I completed a course with Mission Collaborative called the “Career Design Fellowship” which helped provide some structure and accountability as I started brainstorming what I wanted my next professional chapter to look like.

🎹 I’ve started playing piano again.

🎨 I’ve experimented with other crafts - like watercolor and embroidery - and have been enjoying making cards and little gifts for people using those skills this holiday season.

📚 I’ve read SO many books - let me know if you are looking for any recommendations!

❤️ I’ve spent quality time with my parents and my friends. I spent a whole afternoon baking Christmas cookies with my mom - something I haven’t done since college. And when a friend of mine was going through a difficult time, I was able to drive to their house in the middle of the day to be with them.

And - more importantly - here’s what this time has taught me:

⭐️ Slowing down is good for my brain and my memory.

⭐️ I can get by with LESS - spending less, buying less, doing less.

⭐️ I’m learning the difference between being busy and being PRODUCTIVE.

⭐️ I am a CREATIVE. That part of me didn’t go away, it just needed to be fed.

⭐️ Investing in my COMMUNITY is worth it every time. The time I've spent connecting with people has been the best part of this break.

As I wrap up this time and transition back into the working world, I’m holding onto these lessons and letting them inform my next steps. Nurturing my creative self. Valuing intentionality and real connection. Following my interests and passions. Centering people and relationships. With these pillars in mind, I am confident the right road will rise to meet me.
